Back in 1972, people were cutting down trees and exploiting petroleum, coal and uranium ore for the economic bloom, which resulted in the serious damage to the natural environment. Seeing the fact that our mother earth was badly hurt by the selfishness and greediness of human beings, Elisa Bottini Massa, who has a Ph.D. in science, devoted herself to environmental protection and Greenpeace campaigns. That was when “HELAN Cosmesi di laboratorio” was founded by Professor Elisa Bottini Massa, University of GENOVA and lawyer Vincenzo Moncalvo in Italy.

The word “HELAN” comes from the Greek word “HELIOS(the sun)” and the Latin word “ANIMUS(the soul),” implying that our soul and lifestyle should be as bright, honest, optimistic and vivid as the sun. “HELAN” was established in Genoa, a place near Milan, Italy. It is a harbor in the northwest of Italy, the largest transportation junction to Mediterranean, and also a cultural spot where artists and poets gather. Columbus, the explorer who found the New World, was born exactly in this place. Genova has pleasant climate: the south regulated by the Mediterranean Sea and the north shielded by mountains as barriers. Therefore, various kinds of medicinal herbs and plants can be found in the nearby area, such as olive trees and grape trees as well as the most representative coastal plants like lavenders and some typical temperate vegetation. Located in such an ideal environment, HELAN has passed on the wisdom of ancient agrostologists and the infinite hope for the essence of nature.

Marseilles soaps

Natural olive soaps were created in the end of 16th century to the middle of 18th century in Marseilles, France. That is why they are also called the Marseilles soaps. The soaps manufactured at that time were used by the aristocracy in the feudal society as the sacred bathing supplies.

the ancient manufacturing methods

Marsheilles soaps are made according to the traditional manufacturing methods. The soap-makers respect the ancient quality of soaps and use natural ingredients. They extract the cold pressed virgin olive oil and use it as the base and then steam it in a large tub for six days and six nights to make the natural soap which can then gently clean the skin.

The soap making process of Marseilles soaps

1.Use cold pressed olive oil, containing high mineral substances and vitamins(extracted by hands and stones)
2.Heat the ingredients in a boiler for six days and six nights to go through the fat splitting process and increase the sodium
3.Filter the natural sodium aliphatete three times
4.Finally comes the pure and unsaponified sodium soaps

The best of soaps

Gone through the process of research and production, the natural soap can be 100% botanical and as purely white as milk. And because the soap is made harder, even the last bit of the soap block can be easily used. Containing the unique element of theophylline, the fragrance of essential oils can be completely released. These are some of the reasons why Marseilles soaps are called the best of all soaps. People in Savona, Italy persist in refining the production of natural olive soaps. They then sell their natural olive soaps to Europe and other places of the world. This is why people refer to soaps as SAVON, a word also used in Taiwanese to mean soaps.
